choosing a safe to protect from fire and water

Do you have a safe in your home? If so, will that safe keep your important documents and precious items safe in the event of a fire? I bought a safe thinking that it would protect all of the things kept inside from damage if the house was ever to go up in flames. I sure was wrong. Not only was everything ruined from the flames, but the water that the fire department used to put the fire out also invaded the safe and caused even further damage. That was when I started learning about choosing a safe that is truly going to keep the contents safe from fire and water damage.

The Benefits Of Magnetic Cam Locks

Magnetic key locks are a newer option that can provide your home with a much greater level of security than you would receive from a traditional lock. The unique characteristic of the magnetic cam lock is that it uses magnets; rather than a traditional key, the door is unlocked with a magnet.

Relies On Magnetism Rather Than Mechanical Locking Forces

The lock cannot be opened simply by a plain magnet. There are multiple types of magnets placed within the key with varying positions. The positions of the magnet are what allows for the key to be able to unlock a specific door. As a result, it is possible for the locksmiths to create thousands of combinations.

The Magnet Is Very Strong

The types of magnets used to create magnetic keys are the strongest available and will lose their strength very little over time. This process is so slow that you will likely never notice a loss in the effectiveness of your key. The only exception is if the magnet is exposed to excessive heat or is damaged. But they do not become demagnetized if they are exposed to other magnets or if they are dropped, thanks to their strength.

Traditional Lockpicking Methods Do Not Work

Magnetic key locks cannot be picked. The structure of the lock is such that traditional lockpicking methods are ineffective.

Keys Cannot Be Duplicated

Unlike with conventional locks, the keys for magnetic key locks cannot be duplicated. The equipment needed to create each key is only available to the locksmiths that manufacture the keys.

The Lock Is Long-Lasting

The magnetic key locks last longer because they can resist dirt and glue. While they are not subject to wear-and-tear, they are battery-powered and the battery periodically needs to be changed.

A Cam Lock Can Be Easily Replaced With A Magnetic Cam Lock

If you already have a cam lock installed, you can easily have the conventional cam lock replaced with a magnetic cam lock.

An Unlimited Number Of Keys Can Be Made

An unlimited number of keys can easily be made since all of the keys look identical and are only differentiated by the magnetic code. The locksmiths duplicate a specific key by using a special key kit.

Locks Are Self-Locking

Some magnetic locks are designed to be self-locking. Rather than having to manually turn the lock on the other side, the lock detects when the door has been shut and locks automatically. This is useful if you frequently forget to lock the door.
